The Congo Market Basket is a collection of our favorite Congolese treasures. Gathered from Kinshasa to South Kivu, to Bukavu, each item is handcrafted or designed with Congo in mind. The basket is valued at over $270. All items were donated to Reeds of Hope so 100% of your raffle ticket goes directly to help rebuild Family Bethlehem. $100 Gift Certificate to KISANY

Kisany has meticulously trained more than 100 vulnerable women as professional embroiders, tailors, and weavers in DR Congo, Rwanda, and Kenya. All of these women are at risk- many of them been victims of war torture, forced migration, starvation, and sexual violence. Working with Kisany allows them to escape an uncertain and dangerous existence, provide food and a home for their families, and send their children to school. 

 

The Zawadi clutch from Mamafrica Designs measures approximately 9" x 7". Its envelope design has a magnetic closure at front. Constructed from100% cotton Kitenge print textile, it is perfect as a clutch or for your iPad mini. (iPad mini not included) Mamafrica is a grassroots organization based in the city of Bukavu, DRC serving internally displaced women from the volatile provinces of the country. Mamafrica remains a source of long-term, viable, and sustainable employment for these women.

The Congolese Keepsake Cookbook began as a way to share recipes with those new to Congolese cuisine, but as these recipes were collected from Congolese family, friends, ex-pats, and missionaries, it grew to be so much more. This beautiful, large 8" x 11" hardcover  photo quality book contains over 90 authentic Congolese recipes and tips- both traditional and modern. There are over 130 glorious color photos from various regions all over DR Congo. Each 2-page spread contains a "Memories" section for recording heart-warming moments, favorite meals, or special occasions and dates... memories perfect for one day passing down to your grown child for their own kitchen and family, for future generations to enjoy! 

These treasures hail from the beloved "Theives Market" and fabric market in the capital, Kinshasa. The turquoise beaded cuff bracelet is handmade and stretches to fit any teen or adult sized wrist. The wooden hand carved elephant measures 2" x 3." The shaker is handcrafted from elements of the native palms, perfect for making music with kids. The teal and brown textile is a very fat yard of 45" wide African Wax print. If you win this basket, we can arrange to have the fabric made into dinner napkins, a table runner, or pillow covers for a donation.

Grown in South Kivu, Collective Trades coffee comes from a community plantation. Check them out, they work on maternal death prevention in the region! You will receive two pounds of medium roast, whole bean coffee. 

Theo Chocolate, in partnership with Eastern Congo Initiative have created this delicious collection of Congo flavored chocolate. Included in the basket are three bars- Coffee & Cream, Sea Salt Dark, and Vanilla Nib.  

Made by our partners and dear friends at the sewing school of Emmanuel Training Center in Kinshasa, this wallet was designed and constructed by Micheline and her team of young mothers. The wallet is made from tradition African wax textile, features unique stitching on the front, and measures 8" x 4.5" Learn more about our partnership with Emmanuel Training Center here! 

Designed exclusively for Reeds of Hope, these notecards feature the illustrative work of Josephine Dayco Lock paired with traditional Congolese proverbs. Each set includes 9 cards, 3 of each design. 

Last, but most certainly not least, this painting has traveled all the way from a market in Kinshasa. It depicts life by the Congo River in a beautiful impressionism style. Created by a Congolese artist in Kinshasa, the painting measures 20" x 27" with an additional two inches of canvas framing the image. The piece can be framed or stretched over a canvas frame.
