We know there is a need for sustainable jobs in order for families to stay together. Our desire is to prevent any mother from having to make the decision to leave her children. For this reason, we've teamed up with Emmanuel Training Center in Kinshasa to give women opportunity through education, job training, and having a relationship with Jesus.

The One Thread Project is a collaboration with the Sewing School. The program is run by Micheline, an accomplished wife, mother, seamstress, and Bible school graduate. She is supported by our local social worker, Ismael, who comes alongside the women each step of the way to offer support, guidance, and accountability.

When a woman enters the program, she begins at the sewing school.  It is here that she receives the support, skills, and tools necessary to learn the trade. Wrap around services like transportation and food are provided through our social worker. After 9-12 months at the school, the woman will earn her official seamstress certificate, be given her own sewing machine, and transfer over to the boutique.

At the boutique, she will continue to perfect her skills and create garments to be sold. In this new setting she will also start earning an income to become financially independent through her work. From the boutique she will be able to go launch a business in her own neighborhood.

Over the past year and a half, we've seen these resilient women flourish given the opportunity. Our first group of women are finishing up at the boutique and preparing to launch a boutique in their own community. Stay tuned to follow their journey!

You can make a difference by giving a one time donation or by signing up to be a monthly sponsor. The consistency of our monthly sponsors allow us to offer scholarships to the women. The one time donations allow us to cover all the extra costs associated with the program. You can also designate where you'd like your donation to go, learn more here.
